Privacy policy
This policy describes how Chinatown Soup collects, uses and discloses personal information in connection with this website. Last updated 8 September 2026.
Scope
We will never ever, for any reason, sell or distribute any information collected from our users and customers to any third party for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you’ve been…ever, for any reason whatsoever.
“Personal information” means information that can be used to identify an individual. It is disclosed only to the service providers listed below, who process it under contract for the purposes stated, and where disclosure is required by law.
Information collected
Server logs. The host, Netlify, records the technical details of a request — IP address, browser, page requested — in order to serve the Site and protect it from abuse. The logs are not read to study individuals. No cookie, tracking script or advertising pixel runs on this Site.
Order information. There is no checkout here: shop orders complete on Payhip and Tea Club subscriptions on Stripe, so the name, address, email and telephone number you enter go to them. Chinatown Soup receives only what is needed to fulfil an order and answer questions about it. Payment card details never touch this Site.
Forms and correspondence. Whatever you enter into a form here — contact, residency application, mailing list — and, where you write directly, your email address and message, kept in order to reply and hold a record.
Disclosure to service providers
Each of the following processes personal information on behalf of Chinatown Soup for the purpose stated, bound by its own privacy terms:
- Netlify, Inc. provides website hosting and processes submissions made through forms on the Site.
- Stripe, Inc. provides payment processing and subscription management. Payment card details are transmitted directly to Stripe.
- Google LLC serves one typeface used across the Site. Loading a page requests that font from Google, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details. No Google analytics or advertising service runs here.
- Payhip Ltd hosts the shop. Shop links on this Site lead to Payhip, where your order and delivery details are collected and your order is fulfilled.
- Intuit Mailchimp provides email distribution and maintains the mailing list.
- Resend delivers notification emails generated by form submissions, so the contents of a submission pass through Resend.
- Acuity Scheduling handles Spirit Soup bookings and collects the details you enter there directly.
- Luma hosts the events calendar and collects registration details directly.
Personal information may additionally be disclosed to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request, or to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. This list is amended as service providers change.
Cookies
This Site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. There is therefore nothing to consent to and nothing to opt out of, and blocking cookies will not affect how the Site works.
Google is the one exception noted above: it serves a typeface, so it sees your IP address, though it sets no cookie here. Where a link takes you to another company — Payhip, Stripe, Acuity, Luma, Mailchimp — you are on their site from that point, under their cookies and privacy terms, which Chinatown Soup has no access to. Those sites do set cookies.
Email communications
Marketing email is sent only to individuals who have opted in to receive it. Each such message contains an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately upon use.
Transactional email — order confirmations, shipping notifications, notices affecting an active subscription — is a necessary part of fulfilling the contract and is not subject to marketing opt-out while that order or subscription is active.
Retention
Order records are kept for the period required for tax, accounting and regulatory purposes. Mailing list records are kept until the subscriber unsubscribes. Residency applications are kept through the review process and for a reasonable period after, as applications may be reconsidered in later rounds.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and personal information is not knowingly collected from them. Where Chinatown Soup becomes aware that it has been, it is deleted.
Amendments
This policy may be amended to reflect changes in practice or for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The revised policy is posted to this page and the date above updated.
