When Matt DeLuca mailed his poetry chapbook to Chinatown Soup, we knew he was one of us. Fast forward to April 30th, and Matt is debuting his solo exhibition featuring work made during his Soup Studio residency.
Matt's work arises from a feeling that the work of art is to add to the say-able. Starting with poetry and expanding through painting and drawing, his work looks for light and space, finding different forms—abstract shapes, fields of color, simple forms, words and textures—on paper, canvas, wood and cardboard, in ink, acrylics and oil paint. Simple non-rules like "do less" and "many ideas, all loosely held" help guide a practice that ultimately rests on sensation and the delight of making.
Join us for an opening reception on Wednesday, April 30th, from 6–8 pm. The show continues with a poetry open mic night on Thursday, May 7th — details TBA.
