Chinatown Soup is pleased to present an exhibition of oil paintings by Brandon Tellez, on view from October 3, 2026.

Brandon Tellez, a passionate Brooklyn-based oil painter, returns to seven years ago, when he made his first collection in New York of the same hip-hop artists he has painted every year since he was seventeen years old. The purpose of this show is to return to the same collection from seven years ago, but in a new way, challenging himself and coming back to the first reason he started painting. His love of music from hip-hop artists such as Tupac, Biggie, and DMX has had a lasting influence on him, inspiring him to honor them and to show his love and appreciation for them through his work. The goal is to show these artists in a new light, through his brushstrokes that reflect his emotion in every piece.

About the artist:

Brandon Tellez is a self-taught Mexican artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Raised in a small town in Florida, he began painting over 10 years ago. His career as an artist was cultivated in his late teens as he traveled to art events in Miami, Naples, Fort Myers, and Atlanta. He had his first solo exhibition in Southampton at a pop-up gallery curated by Denis Leon. Specializing in oil portraits, much of his work is done on a large scale and pulled from an image that has sparked his interest and curiosity during a brief but special moment in history. Through his first gallery, his work has been added to several collections in New York, Canada, and Denmark. Brandon has worked in different mediums in order to portray his current emotion or state of being.
