TWO MOONS

As Megan Lee and Jiwon Rhie got to know each other during their time in-residence at Chinatown Soup, they discovered that they share complementary life experiences. Jiwon is Korean-born and moved to New York, while Megan, born in the USA, discovered her Korean heritage in New York.

The artists illuminate understanding of self and place with Two Moons, a performative, participatory, and process-based creative engagement that is on view at the invitation of our neighbor-friend Home Gallery through the end of the month.

The performance of interconnected hands extending towards each, set against the integrated screens, reflects the artists’ thought towards these intersections as they explore surreal sensibilities. Megan Lee presents her sculptural landscape paintings on-site gallery space. And Jiwon Rhie will show a participatory performance piece on the opening day. The performance documentation will be accessible through QR code on the gallery window during the show period.

In her art, she distills down to essences through color and expression, capturing the energy of a fleeting moment. Previously she participated in the Uncommon Artist Residency at the Sound View Inn in Greenport, NY, the Dollhouse show in Watermill, NY, and has produced several commercial installations for brands including Bandier and Splits59.
