PUSSY PUSSY

PussyPussy Pop-Up Shop is an artistic celebration of sisterhood created by the interdisciplinary art duo Eunice Wong and Claire Christine Sargenti. Women and cats, two delicate and seductive creatures sharing the same nickname, are the inspiration behind this body of two- and three-dimensional mixed media work with a playful-sexy-serious kind of attitude.

Eunice’s artwork depicts the adventures of her little cat named Mozzarella, in the mediums of oil paint and relief print. You can also find new pieces from her fashion line 普通八婆 Putong Bapo, (translates as “basic bitch” in Chinese), one-of-a-kind accessories, and cat merchandises.

Claire’s work is feminist in nature and features the varying shapes and sizes of women’s vaginas in multi-media linocut prints and sculptures as well as on merchandise such as bags, enamel pins and art books from her feminist brand True Nature Child. Together, these two empowering women excite New York City’s independent art scene while smashing the patriarchy with feline grace, bold style and a great sense of humor. *Meow*

Claire Christine Sargenti is an interdisciplinary artist, activist and healer. Known as the “Classically Trained Rebel,” her bold works break boundaries and cross genre lines, exciting audiences and voyeurs alike. She received her training as a ballet dancer with the Joffrey Ballet in NYC and went on to found her own contemporary ballet company New Bridges Ballet and the solo project The Metal Ballerina.

When a chronic illness-related injury ended her ballet career, Claire dove into live theater by writing, producing and performing in the 12 character solo show Interludes: A New Orleans Play, winning the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe award from the New York International Fringe Festival. Excited by the art world outside of dance, Claire continues to explore her creativity, modeling for acclaimed photographers and appearing internationally in galleries while working on her own project Self Portrait of a Solo Artist where she writes, photographs and models, often without clothes.

As a mixed media visual artist, Claire is inspired by the feminist movement and the dynamic power of women’s anatomy. She is the creator of the world’s largest spinning vagina sculpture entitled Origin, illustrator and author of Vagina Book and founder/designer of the feminist brand True Nature Child. Claire is excited to join her bff Eunice in the gallery show PussyPussy at Chinatown Soup.

Eunice Wong (b. Brooklyn, NY) is a self-taught mixed media artist, muralist, printmaker, fashion designer, singer, writer, producer and performer. During Bushwick Open Studios 2018 she debuted her series of linocut relief prints, oil paintings and pastel drawings, mused by her pet kitten and still-life of animals, often captured in life’s most adorable, humorous, and surreal moments. In the same year she started her fashion line 普通八婆 Putong Bapo, (translates as “basic bitch” in Chinese) as a playfully rebellious response to the “hypebeast” trend-chasing culture. Her designs often features bold letters on neon color sportswear.

In September 2019 Eunice proudly completed her first two murals in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the current international hub of street art. Hand-painted alongside the works of other local street artists Dirt Kobain, Frank Ape, Ian Cinco, Goofy Froot, her murals “Mozzarella & Friends” features her white cat named Mozzarella traveling through space on a slice of dripping pizza. “Cyber Cat Tree”, a collaboration with Kosuke James, features a “catricature” of singer Grace Jones perched on a cyber cat tree, surrounded by Mozzarella clones (49 Wyckoff Ave.).

Her upcoming art show/ pop-up shop “PussyPussy” held at Chinatown Soup (December 6 - 8th) with Claire Christine Sargenti is based upon the two friends’ biggest influences on their artwork- womxn and cats, two delicate and seductive creatures sharing the same nickname. Eunice will be displaying new works driven by funny, sexy seriousness, in the mediums of oil paint, collage self portrait, relief print, new pieces from her fashion line, one-of-a-kind accessories, and merchandises.

Besides creating visual art, Eunice is also a published indie singer songwriter. Her soul/electronica songs from albums “Humanize” and “The Girl Who…” topped international music and pop charts in Macau and China. She performs in New York and travels regularly to wherever her artistic pursuits takes her.
