LOOSE PARTS

Chinatown Soup is pleased to present Loose Parts, a presentation of serious design for playful people by Jennifer June that is on view November 18 - December 1.

Jennifer believes that humans are natural builders. Like the ad hoc assemblies of chess players in Union Square, we look to our environment and see possibilities. This “yes, and” attitude demonstrates a natural, creative approach to designing interior spaces—whether it’s using a chair as a side table or the couch as a bed to offer a friend in town.

Loose Parts is a furniture system with flexibility in mind. This collection is component based and sold as assembly kits or individual objects, making them adaptable from person to person and home to home. The DNA of future needs is embedded within this system. As your life evolves so can the objects grow with you. Jennifer June founded Loose Parts with the desire to connect people more deeply to their environment. Homes are not a static backdrop to our lives but rather a moving set of objects that unfold and reconfigure. Loose Parts harnesses this energy to accommodate a dynamic interior.

Raised in a bilingual household, Jennifer’s childhood was split between Costa Rica and Southern California. She understood early on that homes are not bound by four walls, rather they are a reflection of people and culture. Her designs build on the insight that homes happen not through perfection but by participation.

Jennifer has worked with Donna Karan to design a fabrication and collaboration space for the Haitian Artisan Project, Arianna Huffington on the Thrive Global launch, and editorial styling for W Magazine among other interior and lighting design projects. Before moving to New York she founded Hermitage, a home product boutique featured in Design Sponge, Sunset Magazine, and Domino for its curated collection of under-the-radar wallpaper and artisanal goods.

Jennifer has a BA in Art from San Francisco State University, a Post-Bachelorette in Printmaking from Oregon College of Arts and Craft, and a double Masters in Interior and Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design. She has shown work in Portland OR, Seattle, San Francisco, and New York City.
