DON'T WORRY, FORGET IT

Chinatown Soup is pleased to present Don’t Worry, Forget It by Elyse Rainbolt, in partnership with our friends at Clear Gallery Tokyo, from September 29-October 11, 2020. This exhibition includes myriad quotes taken from antique paper that are presented as protests, sacred truths, and reminders through screen print, embroidery, and garments. Custom fragrances encapsulate the titular phrases along with herbal blends and mix tapes to embody what the words mean to the artist and to further encompass a felt environment. Capes, dresses, millinery, scarves, handbags, and tapestries become mementos that the artist invites viewers to engage with as a ‘Be-In’—a modality of protest invented for the 21st century.

Elyse Rainbolt (b. Ashland, Oregon, 1985) is a multimedia artist, lyricist and designer. Being sensitive, observant, adaptable and somewhat of a chameleon, Rainbolt imbibes the feelings and vibes around her. She has a distinct sentimentality for the 1960’s and 1970’s counterculture and is in constant search of an inspiring mood or setting. Rainbolt is a music enthusiast and visually creates what she is sonically inspired by, bearing unanticipated results with meaningful outcomes. She specializes in hand-painted garments, tapestries, murals, poster art and textile design. She especially enjoys 35mm slide shows, original interiors from the 1940’s-1970’s, and dancing front row at concerts. To contact the artist, please visit: www.elyserainbolt.com
