MONGEAU

Chinatown is pleased to present, Mongeau, an exhibition of drawings and paintings by our dear neighbor Josh Mongeau that is on view from August 2 - 15, 2021.

A versatile artist and designer, he has worked for 16+ years in art direction, concept art, and graphic design with a variety of ad agencies and high profile clients. Josh gravitates toward producing figurative and abstract works on paper, often with otherworldly, esoteric visuals. His work with ink and photo-collage in particular resonate with fans of the surreal and manga.

Evocative compositions with a strong sense of line and visual texture contain either muted hues or bold color combinations. The artist’s range encompasses subjects spanning Sci-Fi and street art to portraiture and landscapes. Josh’s practice offers something to anyone searching for a sensation that hovers just beyond their understanding: a scene from a parallel universe, perhaps, or a future yet to be written. Bring your imagination and allow his art to do the rest.

Josh Mongeau earned a B.F.A. at Pratt Institute majoring in Advertising / Art Direction in the Communications Design Department. Along with the intensive design and illustration requirements of his degree, he is a life-long practitioner of this craft. He travels with a small black sketchbook and enjoys thinking through drawing. His illustrations are built up from loose pencil line work — allowing him the ability to look into abstract forms and let his imagination take hold.
