COLE LOVES MONSTERS

Chinatown Soup is pleased to present COLE LOVES MONSTERS, a pop-up presentation of photo collage, digital art, and video by Cole Hannan that is on view March 11 - March 15, 2020. Please join us for an opening reception on Saturday March 14 from 7 to 10pm featuring live music courtesy of in-house band Spooky and the Bear with special guests Barbara Gogan and Cornichon.

Cole’s mixing of digital mediums spans creation of psychedelic portraits, socio-political GIFs, and fashion. His latest series, Memory Portraits, contains works from the artist’s summer 2019 residency spent in Espiche, Portugal. During this time, Cole created surrealist portraits of fellow residents in addition to self-portraits. Relying on memories of shared experiences with each artist, Cole suspends objects and symbols of connection within a dreamlike vortex. Beyond visual representations of the past, these works animate the after effects of lived experiences for subject and viewer to consider as happening in real time.

Cole Hannan attended New York University to study film, TV, and animation. He has spent over 15 years in the city working as a director and animator.
