Clare Kim (b. 1996, United States) is a Korean-American painter based in Brooklyn. She is self-taught, and Chinatown Soup hosted her debut solo exhibition. While in residence, Clare drew from her archive of personal photos to create visual diaries that weave together referential images, consolidating distinct moments and cherished memories on canvas in a dreamlike manner reminiscent of what we see when we close our eyes.
In February 2024, we exhibited Clare’s second solo show, a collection of 16 acrylic paintings and graphite-colored pencil drawings. The compositions are characterized by psychedelic depictions of the natural world and its inhabitants both real and imagined, paralleling and undulating across paracosmic landscapes that traverse desert, forest, and celestial biospheres.
